I hate going home. And why does it always rain and storm on us as we're driving back to Baton Rouge. Every year.

Last Day... Apalachicola!!

We woke early today to lightening, thunder and rain. So, the girls got dressed and went to Apalachicola shopping, the big boys (including Beau) went fishing and the remaining boys just slept, then hung out on the beach for the day.

Apalachicola was packed with people!!! AND someone forgot to tell them that the Daddies and the little kids are supposed to stay at the condo on the beach while the Mommies and the bigger girls went shopping. Unbelievable amount of strollers and crying kids there today...for a minute there, it felt like we were at the Peach Festival. But over all, it was a great trip. Found a GREAT new little garden store where we bought each bought a Blood Lily. And Tracie got a pineapple plant. Loved this place (as you will see by the pictures).

Beau said it was a great day fishing!!

As we were coming back onto the Cape late this afternoon, there was a big commotion going on. Not sure of what happened exactly, but an electric pole was snapped in half and there was a fire all around it. No electric power on the Cape!! As of right now, 10:30 PM, its back on but keeps going off & on. Hopefully it will stay on by the time we go to bed so that we'll have air conditioning.

Here's some pics for today:

Just a few days left...

Its Thursday morning already!! Don't you hate the last few days of a good vacation because you know its ending soon??

Yesterday was a long day. We got up early and took some kayaks out into the bay. Launched at the "Stumphole" at the southern end of the cape into the St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve. Saw lots of wildlife ~ stingrays, redfish, birds, deer, etc. Very peaceful.

The boys spent the afternoon playing with the kayaks... check out the pictures.

The girls went into Mexico Beach for lunch at Mango Marleys. Then shopping at some great little boutiques.

Today we're sending the boys to Panama City Beach for the day and the rest of us are hanging out on the Cape. Maybe taking the boat out for a while.

It's Your Birthday!

Today (Tuesday) was Bobby's birthday. We traditionally go to Indian Pass Oyster Bar but they are closed now on Tuesdays. So, we cooked at the house ~ Chargrilled Oysters and BBQ Shrimp. Mallory, chesea and Khane had never had chargrilled oysters and after some "persuading" from the others tried them. Not a good move because they loved them so we had to share. Well, Chelsea said she liked the flavor but they were chewy.

Later, Beau had planned a little "birthday party" for his dad. Instead of cake, he had a small peach cobbler and a small blackberry cobbler and made us all wear party hats he found at Piggly Wiggly.

More Pictures...

A Perfect Day.

Monday on the Cape was absolutely perfect!! High temps in the 80's, very little humidity and the water was so incredibly smooth & clear.

Bobby & Ray went shark fishing early. With the clear water, you can see practically to the bottom even in the deeper areas of the bay (which is only about 14 feet). They said the sharks were lining up to get a chance to be caught and were going crazy over the chum bag. Now, these aren't huge sharks. Just maybe 3 feet long or so. BUT all of a sudden, they all disappeared and an 8 to 10 foot hammerhead came gliding towards their boat. It circled the area a few times and then went off. Needless to say, fishing ceased for the day.

The rest of us spent the day on the beach. It was actually crowded today, but still not the same as in a more commercialized area of the Panhandle like PCB or Destin. Got some sun, took a couple of naps, floated in the cool water (prior to knowing that a hammerhead was out cruising the beach buffet).

The boys decided to go rent scooters. Tracie and I followed them taking pictures and until they got to the end of the cape to turn around, they never knew. They had a blast though. I think next they are going to rent kayaks...maybe this year, I will attempt to paddle one. Could be interesting.

We left the kids at the house and went to eat dinner at Dockside Cafe in Port St. Joe. Was okay. Funny how its so hard to find good food in Florida. But then again, we're so spoiled with our Louisiana food. Afterward we went to The Thirsty Goat for drinks and met some interesting local characters. Overall, a good night.

The house was still standing when we got home and the kids had a big bonfire going on the beach. That's one of the things we love about this place is that you can have bonfires (just follow the rules!). I always forget how incredible the stars are out here too. Due to it being turtle hatching season, there were no lights on the beach coming from houses and only a few small bonfires as far as you could see...it was dark!!! But the stars...takes your breath away.

We're now getting ready to go snorkeling in the bay...hope the Hammerhead got bored and went back out in the gulf. If you don't hear from me after this, you know we were brunch for the shark.

Gorgeous day today!!!!! Yesterday (Sunday) started off so nice...cool breeze, sunny. But ended up with some pretty rough storms. I love it when it rains at the beach.

So, is it normal for someone to go to Piggly Wiggle 3 times in less than a 24 hour period???

Nothing exciting happened on Sunday. Laid on the beach. Threw the frisbee for Bailey. Floated in the waves. Threw the frisbee for Bailey. Fell asleep on the beach. Brushed off the sand that Bailey flung on me because she wanted me to throw the frisbee. Threw the frisbee for Bailey. Lunchtime. Went to Piggly Wiggly. Took pictures with Chelsea & Mallory at the Port St. Joe Marina. Came back from Piggly Wiggly. Drove through a storm. Got back to the house. Went back to Piggly Wiggly. Shopping at Bluewater Outriggers. Back to the house. Make a HUMONGOUS pot of Bowtie Pasta with Alfredo and a loaf of Taste of Gourmet Bayou Beer Bread for the starving kids. Played cards til I nearly passed out on the table from exhaustion.

overall... a perfectly good day at the beach.

We made it!!!

Left Baton Rouge at 4:30 am today and arrived at Mellow Yellow around 4:00 pm. We met up with the Tatum's in Mobile and then headed east. This year we decided to travel along Highway 98 from Pensacola to Port St. Joe. I'm so amazed at how much Destin has grown. Sitting at the redlight in Fort Walton looking down at Cash's brought back some really great memories of years past...okay, many years past, but still some great memories.

Got into Port St. Joe and the water was very rough. Great little waves going on Mexico Beach. Hit the Piggly Wiggly for our normal marathon grocery speed-shopping and made it out to the house by 4:00. St. Joe Bay was a low tide as we drove around to the Cape. Lots of people out scalloping.

Got out to the Cape and our Mellow Yellow house was waiting for us to arrive. If anyone ever decides to vacation here, I highly recommend using Pristine Properties. It had been raining all day so everything was moist. So, we're all unpacked now, sipping some cold adult beverages (Thanks to bartender Ray), the "shut the door!!" yelling has begun, and life is good.

The beach is so nice now after the restoration project last year (check out www.savethecape.com). Lots of shells and crystal white sand.

I'm off now to go look for shells with Tracie. Have a great evening.
